In the space of several months, Japan has made a dramatic shift in its vaccination rates. At the beginning of June, only 3.5% of Japan’s population had been fully vaccinated. Six months later, 76% of Japanese are now fully immunized.

What’s more, 95% of the over-80 age group are now vaccinated. There is no sign of vaccine hesitancy in Japan. Experts say that fear drives extremely high vaccination rates, especially among the elderly. They saw how elderly people in other countries were dying and scrambled to get vaccinated.
