Stockholder

A stock or a share is like a little piece of a company. If you own shares or
stocks, you are essentially a partial owner of a company, and you can be
called a stockholder, or a shareholder.

股東

股票就像是一間公司的部分所有權。如果你擁有某間公司的股票，基本上你已經擁有該間公司的部分所有權，此時你可稱為該公司的股東。

Share price

For various reasons, the value of a certain stock may go up or down at any
given time. For example, if a company announces that it recently recorded
a large profit, the price of stocks in that company will probably go up.

股價

股票的價格會因為各種原因，隨時上漲或下跌。例如：當公司宣佈最近的營收有大幅成長時，那麼該間公司的股價很可能會上漲。

Dividends

The key to the stock market is to buy stocks when they are cheap
and sell them once their value has risen. Another way to make
money from stocks is from dividends: the company may choose to
pay back some of the income it earned to all shareholders.

股利

投資股票的好時機是股價便宜時買進，並在股價上漲時賣出。另一個能從股市賺錢的方法則是股利，也就是公司將其所賺一部分的營收，分一部分給股東。

A: Hi Steve, I wanted to talk to you about the stocks in your portfolio.

B: Oh, hi Harold. How are they doing?

B: Hmm. How did they do last quarter?

A: They released a new product, but to be honest, it flopped. Sales might recover, but I’m not confident.
